Past Present and Future
about rush river
Rush River Seed & Chemical was founded by David Strand in 1978 in Amenia, ND, fulfilling seed orders for the 1979 planting season. Over the 45+ years of Rush River being in business, there have been many changes: The introduction of GMO corn hybrids and soybean varieties, change in crop mix from heavily small grain crops to mainly corn and soybeans, corn deliveries in Proboxes instead of paper bags, the progression of soybean delivery from 50 pound paper bags to jumbo bags to Proboxes to bulk delivery, treating soybeans and corn during spring delivery, to corn being pretreated, to field mapping and other services provided to customers. There has also been change in ownership from Dave Strand to Ben Sand to the current owner, Shaun Nelson.
The one thing that hasn’t changed is the focus on customers. Dave instilled a long-term relationship approach with customers, making sure the business looked out for their needs, treated them right and fair. He will still mention that selling seed “is a marathon and not a sprint” as it is so important to look at our interactions with customers as a long-term partnership. This is something that Shaun and the Rush River team strive for in the present and many years to come.
